Acutis now offers sexually transmitted infection testing with Acutis

The CDC estimates that 1 in 5 people in the United States has a sexually transmitted infection.

Sexually transmitted infections are a critical public health concern in the United States. Many who have contracted sexually transmitted infections are asymptomatic. Often left undetected and untreated, STIs can lead to serious health consequences. Recommendations and programs have been developed over the years to identify and treat individuals with STIs to prevent transmission, reinfections, and complications, however screening rates for these infections remain lower than recommended by public health departments and experts in the field.

Getting tested for STIs is one of the most important things sexually active individuals can do to protect their health and the health of others. Common STI symptoms – sores or bumps on and around genitals, thighs, or butt cheeks, discharge, burning when urinating, high frequency of needing to urinate, itching, irritation, swelling, or flu-like symptoms – can be associated with other infections, therefore getting tested is the only way to conclusively determine the type of infection. Regular screening also helps practitioners diagnose STIs, even before symptoms occur, enabling proper diagnosis and treatment and preventing the transmission of STIs to others.

As a leader in infectious disease testing, we recognize the need for accurate STI testing to get patients the answers needed and allow practitioners to determine the best course of intervention. We are excited to announce that we are now offering a new line of testing – Acutis Reveal™ STI.

Some advantages of Acutis Reveal™ STI include:

  • Rapid turnaround time: results in 8-12 hours from the sample receipt at our lab (compared to most labs resulting in 72 hours)

  • Three collection methods: a non-invasive urine sample collection, genital swab, or lesion swab

  • CLEP- and FDA-approved testing methodology: ensuring the highest quality standards in the country
